Artist Highlight: Harumi Ota
Harumi Ota is a ceramic artist based in Victoria, BC. His work — which ranges from the functional to the sculptural — is characterized by a blend of traditional Japanese designs and his own, unique, nature-inspired style.
We love his playful hand painted glazes and the dreamy worlds he creates through his work. The bowl above looks like an entirely different piece when displayed ‘forwards’ or ‘backwards’!
Harumi studied art at the Kutani Ceramic Technical Training Centre in Nomi, Japan, before moving to Canada in 1997. He has exhibited work in Japan, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada.
